It is open to all educators and meets monthly to discuss local and global issues, enjoy international camaraderie and talk about experience that impact world view.
This is a great local opportunity to learn about and contribute to global education efforts in the Lansing area. The website gives a ton of information. Please check it out!

Global Educators Cohort: Michigan State University
A recognized leader in teacher education, Michigan State University provides many opportunities for its students to engage in globally focused activities through the Office of International Studies in Education. This office has also established a special program which "prepares future teachers who are committed to preparing today's children for tomorrow's world." This is a five year program that leads to full teacher certification. Students in the program complete practicums and intern teaching experiences in local schools. What an incredible opportunity to have college students in your classroom that share your same globally focused goals and are on the cutting edge of teacher training! See the Global Educators Cohort Program's website and video below.

Peace Corp--Invite a Returned Peace Corp Volunteer to your Classroom
Returned Peace Corp volunteers are an outstanding resource for your classroom. The Peace Corp website (World Wide Schools) allows teachers to request a list of returned volunteers in their area. I have had the opportunity to invite returned volunteers on several occasions and they have always been a big educational hit with students. Instead of using the Peace Crop website, I have contacted local returned volunteers that I know (including alumni) and telephoned the Peace Corp Office at Michigan State University. This is an excellent underutilized local resource. Our students are particularly engaged because these volunteers often look like (and in some cases are) people that live in their own neighborhood. On one occasion, we had a volunteer skype back to a colleague who was still in her assignment in Mozambique and the students got a tour of her village.

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan
Refugee Services is just one of many ways that Lutheran Social Services supports our community. In addition to direct services provided to refugees, this organization supports schools and teachers through to schools through their School Impact Program. Training local teachers to understand their international students as well as providing translation services are just a few of the many ways LSS can be of assistance. Please view LSS website and view the video of refugees talking about their experience.
