Global Education Assessment Tool
The implementation of an intentional plan focusing on global education requires asking two very important questions.
First, where are we? What is the staus of global education in your classroom, in your department, in your school and in your community?
As an individual classroom teacher, as a department member, as a building or a central office administrator or curriculum specialist or perhaps as a community member, it is essential to ask this question. Asking this question can be very gratifying because many schools have excellent globally focused curriculum and activities already in place. The problem? Many times these programs are random and not intentional. When looking at current programs in schools, it is very important to have a tool (checklist) to follow to ensure that the global education already taking place is acknowledged and maximized.
Second, where are we going?
After determining what is in place, it is important to know where you are going! I tell students that if they jump off the pier, they better have a plan! If you are looking to implement a lesson, activity or school wide program, having a plan will save time and increase effectiveness.
Here is a Global Education Checklist for Teachers, Schools, School Systems and State Education Agencies by Fred Czarra. This checklist will be very useful in assessing where you are and giving you ideas where you would like to go.
